Sunny Wednesday Treat!

Well, to be honest, it's not sunny here in Eugene at all... it's actually pouring rain.  But my sweet hubby surprised me yesterday with this gorgeous pansy orchid for no particualr reason.  (I wish you all could smell it, it's amazing!)  To say the least it totally made my day... and looks so cheery in our window sill amongst the rainforest of other orchids in our collection (Ryan has quite a knack for orchid care :)

The boyfriend style jean and other denim trends.

The two strongest trends this season for denim were the very distressed/vintage washes, and the boyfriend style jean.  Think a slouchy, worn with a belt, rolled at the hem.  Pair that with a vintage wash and you've got one updated pair of jeans.  The problem with the boyfriend jean is that like any denim trend it favors certain body types.  Same can be true of the really wide leg trouser jeans, and the really skinny leg jeans.  You might have noticed that we tend to shy away from anything extreme as far as trends go.  We like vintage, but we didn't go with the 1980's ripped down the thigh version.  We like wide leg jeans, but didn't go for the super, super bell bottom pairs.  Moderation has been our motto.  So...here is the break-down, in case you are wondering if you might be a candidate for one of these trends.

Boyfriend style:  If you don't have a top and bottom that are proportional, steer clear.  Meaning if you are pear shaped, this style will not do you any favors.  It adds some visual "bulk" to the bottom half, so if you are really curvy through the hips and thighs, you might not be in the market for visual "bulk".  I personally like the relaxed jean, with flip-flops and fitted white tee...I like the "mellow-Nessa" of it--maybe it is because it takes me back to college days when your slouchy levis and white tee where considered sexy. 

Wide Leg Trouser style:  If you are short, these aren't going to work for you (5'4" and under).  Too much fabric, too much pant leg.  Tall or long legged people, go wild. 

Skinny Leg style:  If you have extra action in the hips/butt/thigh and you are shorter, steer clear, REALLY clear, of this style.  You'll end up looking like an ice cream cone.  Skinny leg jeans work well for women with straight hips and slender thighs, otherwise, your only hope of pulling off the look is to be quite tall and proportional.

Don't get me wrong, I love all of these styles, but as a shorter person, who has some butt and thigh action, I can't get away with any of the extremes.  I can do a slighter wider jean (the Seven Dojo works), but skinny leg jeans don't work, I have to go with the straight leg version to eliminate ice cream cone issues.  I do really love the relaxed, hippy-chic, feel of the boyfriend jean, and this I might be able to carry off since I'm relatively proportioned between top and bottom.   Be on the lookout for the pair arriving later this week from Citizens!

If you could do anything you wanted....

So my 6 year old says to me today, "Mommy, can I be God when I grown up?"  I answered, "What do you think?" (my typical response when I either,  1)don't know how to respond, or 2) don't want to get into a long explanation.)  Her response to me was, "Yes, I think I can.  But actually, I want to be the President of the United States.  No, I want to be a news lady.  Actually, I think maybe a doctor.  Actually, I don't know what I want to be when I grow up."  The entire thought was said like a stream of consciousness in less then 5 seconds--she didn't even really think about it at all, the options just came tumbling out of her head without reflection, no doubt, fear, or stress.  It was awesome.   I love living through their little eyes....all day I kept thinking, what would I do if I wasn't scared to do anything?  Signed, ME {lv}

Baby Bag #1...

The first of what is sure to be many... I don't even need an excuse to buy/covet cool bags, but now that I have one, I'm on the search.  My requirements are as follows, 1. it must be something that I will use even after it's initial use as a baby bag. 2. has to be ok for hubby to carry too, ie. not too girly. 3. can't be too huge, cause I have a knack for filling empty space. 4. has to be as convenient as all those baby bags out there without screaming 'I'm a baby bag!'.

So here's bag number 1, Seraph's messenger bag.  I'm pretty excited that it was only 40 bucks (I hear that they're going up to $60 in the next few days)  It looks roomy enough to carry essentials but still streamlined and met all of the 4 requirements plus I love the 'one for the road' sentiment.  The only thing that it could have would be a pocket on the back for momma's wallet and such... but I will figure something out.

Awakening Beauty....

Awakening Beauty the Dr. Hauschka Way  is a new book I just ordered.  Sunday starts the "purification" of my body, and my attempt to rejuvenate my skin.  My girlfriend just visited and she is a business journalist....she wrote a story about the Dr. Hauschka company and was really impressed by their products.  They happened to send her this book after she wrote her story and she is planning on following the diet (healthy whole foods diet centered on things to beautify the skin etc.)  So we've decided the 30 days starts ticking on Sunday (meanwhile I'm drinking a lot of red wine and eating chocolate enough to abate my urges for 30 days)!!  Update in 30 days if I stay on the healthy wagon.  Signed, ME {lv}

One of my favorite Hard Tail jackets!

This is one of my FAVORITE Hard Tail jackets--I've been excited for it to come in!  Called the The Henry Jacket , we loved it so much we got it in TWO colors :-).  Versatile, I like the high neck, and the 3/4 sleeves.  I see wearing this from now straight through to the final days of summer!  Signed, ME {lv}

In case you were wondering how many voicemails it would hold...

Just in case you were wondering...my Blackberry holds 19 messages before it gives the "mailbox full" recording (which it is giving right now and has for several weeks....I kind of like not accumulating any more).  My home phone...well, that baby holds a LOT more.  Yesterday I erased 84 messages...that is EIGHTY-FOUR.  I can't confirm whether it said "mailbox full"--I kind of think it didn't.  Wow.  It is really a wonder we had so many messages because my outgoing personal message basically says, "you can leave a message but I'll tell you right now, we don't check them much so it is kind of pointless."  You would think that would deter people...but no.  Even some of my good friends leave me messages like, "just in case you check this...."  Yeah, right.  In my opinion, caller ID and text have all but eliminated the need for me to deal with the voicemail automated system that always seems to take forever.  You can imagine my aggravation at erasing 84 messages.  You might wonder why I have voicemail in the first place?  Good question, I'm not sure.  Signed, ME {lv}

Prairie Underground--one of last year's best purchases!

I bought a sweatshirt from Prairie Underground last year very similar to this year's Cloak Hoodie and I have to say, it was one of my BEST purchases last year.  I wore that sweatshirt to death, it was something I was constantly throwing on (and I got about a million "that is so cute" comments).  If you are wondering if this little splurge is worth it, I can give you my absolute two thumbs up!!  Signed, ME {lv}

Interesting article on having kids....

And baby makes how many? is the name of a New York Times article published last Friday.  It is an interesting article, and what is even more interesting are the comments people made TO the article.  I didn't realize there were quite so many people out there who thought having more than 2 kids was environmentally and socially irresponsible.  Wow.  I guess in the wake of the octuplets story, people are talking about how "many" are "too" many.  I did think it was interesting that Nancy Pelosi has five kids--bit of trivia I didn't know that was thrown into the article.  Signed, ME {lv}
