Yes, when I look back on the blog enteries...random pretty much describes it. I'm not sure you'd even know that the blog was attached to a clothing store from first glance. Why don't we always blog about clothing and leave the editorials of life out of it? I guess I thought I'd explain my ideas on this because as my sister had said, "I don't get it", so I figured someone else might not either. My philosophy about Melange has always been that it is less about the specific clothing at any given time, and more about the woman that we are lucky enough to come in contact with. I love clothing and fashion....love the different colors, styles, and feelings that clothing evokes. However, I would never call myself a fashion expert, or maven, or anything in that genre. I try to make fashion part of my life in a realistic way--for me....that is why the blog isn't all about fashion, it is about life "stuff" too. Our clothing wraps itself around US, and the US is the part I find interesting....what we choose to wrap ourselves in changes, but the feeling that we want to exude rarely does....confidence, beauty, whimsy, youth, professionalism, power, girliness....the list goes on and on. I've always told everyone who has ever worked for me that we aren't here to "sell" clothing, we are here to help women feel good about themselves and to the extent that we offer clothing feedback and general knowledge that is great, but we also offer a connection to people and a willingness to involve THEM into the fashion in a way that works for THEM instead of just blindly following a formula for what looks good under the guise of the ever changing "fashion du jour". My hope is that woman come away from our store (whether on the internet or in person) and not only look great, but most importantly feel really great...feel empowered and energized by the connection they made to themselves and the way they look AND to other woman.
So...does that explain why if you are reading these blogs you are reading everything from wedding ideas to rants about crazy days with the kids? I hope so, and I hope that everyone who reads this blog and who is part of our network of woman that I truly find inspiring and amazing (and not just because they support my beloved livelihood, but because they appreciate this connection of which I speak of and they appreciate the intimacy that we try to offer) understands just a wee bit better. Signed, ME {lv}
