Honestly, after the last couple of days I was beginning to think that EVERYONE out there was a "bad seed". I just got off the phone with a contractor in Portland (John's Waterproofing to be exact) and my faith in humanity is completely restored. We've had basement leakage in a rental house we own and the last bid I got to fix it was $5500!!!! This guy (who was the nicest, most helpful person) went out there, took one look, and told the tenant exactly what she needed to do to prevent the leaking. It was completely simple situation, that didn't need all the excavating and repair that everyone else said it needed. This particular contractor was so honest and so forthright, and he explained exactly why it was leaking and exactly how we could prevent it, for FREE. I wanted to cry I was so happy and I think he thought I was joking, but I seriously felt like I could tear up and not just at the joy of not having to spend $5500, but the elation of having someone just be honest about something, not try to sell me, and not try to "milk" the situation for all it was worth. He said to me, "we are not salespeople, we are water proofing experts so we are only interested in actually waterproofing what needs to be waterproofed and that isn't your situation". I felt like giving him a medal. Sad state of affairs that this simple honesty has me doing back flips, but I'm taking it for the joyful news it is!
