I did quite a bit of shopping this weekend, and when discussing some of my acquistions with my sister, who did a bit of indulging herself, she mentioned feeling "guilty" for spending so much on herself. I started thinking about how often I've heard a woman say that, and how often I've felt that way myself. Guilty for indulging when others can't, guilty for induling myself (but not necessarily because I couldn't afford it, just because I let myself feel bad about it). Everyone has more than someone, it all is relative, so each of us could internally argue that we don't deserve to be treated so well because others aren't, or because we "shouldn't" spend the money. Oprah Winfrey donates millions and gives plenty, but she also indulges plenty and one could easily argue that she could donate a whole lot more, but if you have ever heard her talk about it, she is pretty unapologetic for her lifestyle of indulgence. I've always sort of liked that about her. So the guestion is, when are you allowed to do nice things for yourself and those you love without feeling guilty? Guilt is such a worthless emotion that doesn't seem to actually accomplish anything except stress you out. Rarely do people change their behavior out of guilt. Anyway, I decided to enjoy my purchases and feel good about them. No cliche "guilt" over shopping. Signed, ME {lv}
