Her name is Giavanna Dior, and she arrived Wednesday 11/28/07 at 11:27 p.m. 7.3 lbs, and 20.5" long, with dark hair and a tiny little munchkin face. Giavanna is the feminine form of John (my husband's name) and since he isn't having a son (at least in this marriage :-) ) we decided to give him a namesake with his last girl. Dior is an old French name, which means "golden one" (no, I'm not fashion obsessed enough to name her after Christian Dior but it isn't a bad association).
Labor hurt...bad, and the epidural came too late to help all that much, but it didn't last long and she is healthy and beautiful (in that scrunched up new baby way). We're going home from the hopsital today (yes, I brought my laptop to the hospital), and I know that the real whirlwind will begin...the introduction of another little one to the household. So, the difference so far with having #3 that I've noticed:
1) I didn't walk in scared of labor...I should have been though because I didn't realize my epidural wouldn't arrive in time to save me.
2) I wasn't too frightened to actually look into the mirror when she was coming out (with #1 I screamed when they showed me what was actually happening down there).
3) The nurses leave you alone because they figure you don't need hovering...they almost leave you alone too much :-).
4) You use the nursery at night....did it both nights and didn't feel guilty.
5) When the baby doesn't cry all that much you don't say, "wow, my baby is SO good", because you know they are just comatose from the ride down and that the screaming will be begin soon.
6) The baby is manhandled within the first 12 hours when the siblings come to visit and there isn't a whole lot you can do about it. Talk about early survival techniques, she'll have to learn to cry loud, FAST.
7) You have a 5 year old to point out to you, "Mommy, your stomach is big and squishy." Ouch, that is some harsh reality.
8) You don't check out of the hospital until they force you to.
Pictures to follow ladies!
