We know, we know, it's hard to think of fall when it's barely summer...but...there's a trend we are excited about, and simply must share! Our first fall trend alert: LACE.
Lace has been whispering its return to the cutting edge since last year, but now across the world designers are reinventing it, using it year-'round to provide a sensual structure and romantic texture to their creations.
Lace isn't just for grannies anymore.
For all its romance, lace can be edgy. Madonna knew this and spawned a new wave empire and 40 year career on it. These days, a new kind of material girl works the lace look, one that's a bit more ladylike, polished, but with a vein of punk rock insouciance beneath. We love it!
Lace making is an age-old craft, perfected by women for hundreds of years. It is a thread (literally) of connection to our ancestors, and to reinvent it into modern looks is a tribute to their art and skill.
There aren't any rules! What was an exacting, intensely focused technique used in mostly conservative, traditional design is now made by machine in any color, any thread type, any fabric and whipped into modern masterpieces. Think Prada. Marc Jacobs. Stella McCartney. sigh. Lovely. Beyond Chic.
Ready-to-Wear will have lace elements, and user-friendly lined lace. Look for this trend across the board, from coats and soft suits to the usual seperates. It's a whole new era for lovely lace!
