Fashion inspiration. Life as art. Creating garments that reflect the past, present and future. The Mulleavy Sisters, Kate and Laura, launched their fashion line Rodarte in 2005 and were instantly noticed by the fashion hoi polloi. Anna Wintour backed them from the start, and their collections stunned everyone else after that.
They have a huge following internationally, as well as by all kinds of celebrity style stars like Kate Blanchett and Natalie Portman, and of course did the costumes for the movie "Black Swan". They also recently designed opera costumes and costumes for the National Ballet. They are one of those rare stories of art recieving the recognition it deserves. They never compromised their vision, and it resonates with millions of people!
The sisters are from California, and they incorporate their own history and experiences into the design of their garments. They also draw from other eras, such as this fall's INCREDIBLE 1940's-inspired collection. I am personally IN LOVE with the hair in this collection! ( I'm going to try a faux bob as soon as possible.)
The Mulleavy sisters inspire me, not because I want to have a fashion line or design costumes, but I do want to live life radiating my creative vision. I want to create art that represents the texture of my life experiences, but also has a fresh, and uniquely modern look. See here for a jaw-droppingly beautiful Rodarte collection from back in fall 2010. You go, girls!
