Sometimes it is ridiculously hard to get myself out the door after 5:00pm. As I settle into my "late 40's" I find my daily schedule dovetailing seamlessly with the geriatric set. Early Bird Specials and afternoon happy hours are right on time for me these days. Once in a very blue moon my husband and I gather all of our strength, and venture forth into the later evening, after dark, in the hallowed hours of say...8.
Last weekend we managed such a feat and visited the Raven and Rose restaurant in downtown Portland. I'd fallen in love with the huge old germanic architecture of the house before it was rennovated, and was just an empty building patiently waiting to be rediscovered. I eagerly watched as a SOLD sign appeared and rennovation began. When I found out it was to be a restaurant I was thrilled to have the chance to go inside and enjoy the hospitality of the beautiful old house, renewed.
I wasn't disappointed. The place is lovely, decorated with whimsical wooden scroll work and architectural embellishements throughout, it has lovely metal signs with ravens on them, huge wooden beams, large fireplaces, etc. Very cozy, friendly and did I say the beer was delicious? It was delicious!
We sat by an upstairs window, near a crackling fire and thoroughly enjoyed our time out (after dark.) It was a typical November night with the wind blowing the rain sideways and small tornadoes of leaves whirling by, but at the Raven and Rose it just seemed....perfect.
When we got back to the house the dog was immensely relieved. What in the world had we been doing being out at this insane hour?! We assured her that we were fine, we were just on a date. And she better get used to it because we plan on doing it again. Maybe even before next year!
Happy Date Night to All! xoxoxo DR
