Tonight I walked in on the idyllic scene of my 12 year old reading a bedtime story to my 7 year old. All would have felt right in the world (in a 'this is too good to be true, when does the fighting start' sort of way), except that I stopped to listen to the story that Ava was reading. And it went along…. "and my mommy is the best mommy in the world because she goes bike riding with me all the time."
Uh, oh, that would mean I'd have to buy a bike first. No gold star for that. On to the next.
"...and my mommy is the smartest person in world because she always knows the answer to everything."
Uh, oh…what was it Ava asked me earlier tonight? I think it was, ' what is the difference between prime and composite numbers?' I told her to google it.
"...and my mommy is the best cook in the world, she always makes me the yummiest food."
Uh, I'm pretty sure the "breakfast for dinner" we had tonight didn't actually qualify as "yummiest" food. Laziest dinner in the world, now that I had covered pretty well.
"…..and my mommy….
This is when I left the room. My mom-self confidence couldn't handle anymore. I envisioned both my kids mentally hearing that story and creating a "yes, no and sort of column" in their mind as it pertained to my mother skills and I think I had a lot of "no" and "sort of" check marks.
So….to make myself feel better, I'm about to indulge in a little pre-emptive retail therapy.
Tomorrow we have Banaris scarves coming which I'm excited for. The scarf is my neck's best friend. It's an instant pick me up. Then Thursday we get Siganka, and that will really put me in the spring mood. (FYI, Siganka means wanderer in Russian…the owner/designer is a vivacious world traveler, and Siganka was her mother's nickname for her.) Take a peek at this darling white cotton tank (Rachael Tank), I'm so excited for the sun so I can wear this! I think maybe one of those Elizabeth Gillett kimono scarves would look great right over that tank. Margaret O'Leary should arrive on Friday, so that will round out my shopping needs perfectly. Who says I need to ride a bike anyway?? :-) Signed, ME {lv}
