I've been going through boxes of photos and came upon these of my amazing grandmother Virginia Spurgin. These are from the early 1940's, in Santa Monica, California before she was married. She was such a go-getter, in everything she did. She loved to ride both english and western, and to jump her horse Raja over the highest jumps. She told stories about riding down San Vicente Boulevard with Barbara Stanwyk! She loved to go fast, on anything. She and my grandfather motorcycled, sailed, water-ski'd, and she loooooved to fly. She once took a ride on the Concord and landed in the same place, just to see what it felt like to fly faster than the speed of sound. She could also back up her black Cadillac at about 45 miles per hour. All this and she was always impeccably dressed. My grandma was one cool chick! (And don't you love the rakish ankle of her sassy hat?! Cutest little Santa Monica cowgirl there ever was!) xoxoxo DR
I love these! Thank you for sharing such a treasure! :)
