I love Pinterest. It's like your own free, personal magazine, chock full of your favorite things. For me that would be: fashion, vegan cooking, art, travel, and crafty projects. This one caught my eye and I gave it a whirl to mixed -but-still-cute results. I think it might look best in a child's room, but it also looks great in my sewing room, and is easy to make! Find full directions and better photos here.
I made a heart template out of an old calendar cover and then proceeded to draw about 100 hearts on 6 different colors of construction paper. Then I got out the old trust x-acto blade, put "Sleepless in Seattle" on my computer, and got to cutting.
Soon I had lovely little piles of multi-colored hearts everywhere which already makes everything look more cheerful. Next, I lined them up in random configurations, and then sewed them together, leaving about an inch or so between them. This sewing part was a little tricky, and I didn't get one perfect string, and I did ruin two strings before I kind of got the hang of it. This was due in part I think to my sewing machine needing servicing and having an issue with the tension. But I did manage to get enough strings done and then hung, and I really like the effect. It's clean, it's cute, and it's colorful. And it's free! (The photo above is in my sewing room. The photo below is from the website Vintage Honeybee. *see link above)
Happy Monday, and happy crafting this holiday season!
