It's not exactly Norman Rockwell, but this is a cozy Christmas sight. The annual Christmas Tree gathering ritual at our house includes a trek down the street for Greg, to carry our tree home. The lot is right down the block - too close to justify driving and possibly getting pine sap in the car, and a little too far to be easy for poor Greg. But he does his best every year, carrying the tree two blocks, and then up all those stairs. My hero!
I absolutely LOVE a Christmas tree - it's one of the most magical things about Christmas. But I do feel a little bad for cutting down a tree. If I love it so much, why would I want to kill it for a few weeks of pleasure? Every year I try to think of an alternative - maybe a living tree? But then you have to plant it after, and we'd soon have a forest of trees, which our little yard doesn't really want. Hmmm...well maybe next year. Meanwhile this one is beautiful, fragrant, and already filled with sparkling ornaments.
I just thought of an answer to my tree problem - I love a xmas tree so much, maybe I just need to have one year round? Get a living tree in a pot, and just keep it in the house until it's too big - start with a small one, decorate it for different seasons - hmmmm.....an easter tree? A spring tree? A summer tree? I love it!
Today's goal is to get the xmas lights on the house. We're going simple this year - usually Greg gets on the roof and puts up icicles, which are beautiful - but a tiny bit dated, honestly, and Greg kind of risks his life every time he gets up there - it's slippery! So this year we decided to take it easy on ourselves and change it up. Stay
tuned for what that means, I still have no idea. :)
I did get the cards ordered though! It's amazing how fast xmas kicks in the minute Thanksgiving is over. All in the space of 24 hours I go from "ahhhh, very full. Thank god all that work is over." to ...." OMG I've got to get xmas going!!! The cards are going to be late, I've got to order gifts, and get the lights up, CHRISTMAS IS COMING!"
A little stressful. When that happens I have to remember to calm down. It's not too late, the cards will get here on time, what it's really time for is nog. With a little something extra. Now let the season begin! xoxoxo Happy Cyber Monday everyone! xoxoxo DR
