Happy day after Thanksgiving!!! This is a festive day to me, perhaps even more festive than Thanksgiving day itself because the pressure is off! The meal is made, eaten, and partially (mostly) digested. The dishes aren't completely washed, but we have all day! No one is coming over today that we need to clean for. That we need to put make up on for. Or really, even get dressed for. :)
I love Black Friday. I don't go out to do any shopping, but I do a lot online. In my opinion, it's the only way to go - no waiting in line, no pushing or shoving, no anxiety - I am ALL about no anxiety holidays. To me that is a big part of the pleasure of the holidays - the peace of them, the kicking back of them - not the get up in the middle of the night and stand outside in the freezing cold to fight other people for "the thing of the year" of them. Online shopping is effortless, just put on your favorite Pandora music station (mine is the Vince Guaraldi holiday station - give it a try!) and kick back with your lap top in your favorite chair, or better yet snuggled up in your adorable PJ Salvage pajamas in BED - and fill your cart with goodies for the family, and a few for yourself. ;) Then get up and have some left overs. And just maybe a cup of hot spiked nog to take the sting out of that tiny hangover from the day before. Ahhhh, that's better.
Some of the best parts about yesterday were 1. Clementine Sugar Cookies dipped in chocolate. Omg these are the cookies of my dreams - soft, chewy, citrus-flavored sugar cookies with thick, gooey milk chocolate? Win-win-win-win-win. 2. The handmade copper candle lanterns I made two years ago. and 3. My husband Greg's inner warrior coming out with his introduction to nerf guns.
To explain: We spent the evening at my sister's house, thank you sis for hosting us, so fun!!!! My nephew just turned 11 years old and he had a nerf gun birthday party, which resulted in him acquiring about fifty nerf guns and all the accompanying nerf ammo. These things are insane - they come in all shapes and sizes from the full-on guerilla warfare bazooka thing to the rocket launcher from Kazakstan thing to the underwater Jacques Cousteau submersible gun (?) to these fat bomb lobbers to little handheld nerf pistols - wow. I had no idea this world existed! Normally peacable humans, we all took to it like a fish to water. Firing everywhere, into the air, at each other, the nerf darts were pinging off the windows, the tv screen, each other's necks. ouch! My husband and nephew had the most fun, and went seamlessly from nerf assault weapons to sword fights to light saber duels and back to nerf wars. My husband had a strange look on his face I've never seen before. (!)
Eventually the boys tired out and came back to the living room to consume dessert, and we finished off our holiday in a more peaceful manner, lol! It was a lot of fun. Happy Friday to you all, and have a FANTASTIC weekend!!!! We're giving thanks for you!!!! xoxoxoxoxo DR
