Is it bragging to talk about your new car? Please forgive, I am just so excited and believe me, grateful! I have been dumped so many times by old cars that need new head gaskets, or new timing belts, or new tires, or new hoses, I have PTSD from it! Truly, I have had my car break down in the WORST possible places - including on the freeway, while driving. Yes, I was driving along when suddenly my car just died. Turned off. No power steering, no engine, no nothing. Thankfully the traffic was only going about 20 miles an hour because of a traffic jam ahead, but omg it could have been so much worse!!! As it was it was horrific and I had to do everything not to freak out. I was alone thankfully, no Cora in the car, but I had to guide my car over to the median with no power steering, merging in front of trucks to do it, until I could glide to a halt, trembling, crying, praying my car did not get hit. It took 45 minutes for the tow truck to come and it was a half an hour ride back to town. So traumatizing!
Another time my car died in the middle of rush hour traffic, just on the other side of the Ross Island bridge. I had to get out of my car in the middle of traffic and thank god AGAIN because an angel of a man got out of the car behind me and helped me push my car (this time with Cora in the back, and our dog Dizzy too) out of the way. Again, an hour before the tow truck came. After experiences like these I am a little fearful of cars that need major repairs. We got rid of that car finally, and got a great 2009 Forester which we loved. But, it was due for a second set of tires AND a new head gasket, and rather than ride that particularly expensive and unpredictable pony again, we decided it was time to upgrade. So this weekend we bought this amazing, slightly-used, 2016 Subaru Forester. It's like a space ship. I swear the technology in that thing is light years ahead of the space technology that put men on the moon in 1969!!!! There is probably an app in it that will actually take us to the moon, or at least cruise control in orbit. Maybe that's the 2017 model. I told Greg that it will be just like my smartphone - I won't use a tenth of the technology in it. Just give me my Pandora radio and I'm good. I dont' even need that back-up camera dude, I'm old school and I KNOW how to parallel park. But...maybe in ten years when I'm good and old and dementia is setting in, I'll need it. By then it will be a self-driving car, probably, and everyone will be able to parallel park perfectly. xoxoxo Happy November!!!!! DR
