Gia has started Taekwondo. It's ADORABLE. Since she is in the two week tester stage (and I have yet to write the $150 check for her white suit), she had on her mini Hard Tail Rocker leggings (these are just like the grown up version and are super cute--LOVE mine), her favorite blue sweatshirt, and a signature flower headband. Gia's motto with headbands is "go big, or go home". So amongst the all white clad, very subtly differentiated kids between the ages of 7-12, stood my Gia with her rocker leggings and big ass flower headband. That's my girl.
The place is amazing. First off, the teacher's name is Cory Ball. I like to call him C.Ball. I'll have you know, that it took me a full 15 minutes to actually read his full first name on his jacket--all I could see was the last two letters "ry" and the last name Ball, so I was sitting there hypothesizing on all the possible name situations that might be going on. Harry Ball? Gory Ball? There were lots of unfortunate possibilities. I didn't guess Cory though....probably better than Harry. ANYWAY...I digress. He was amazing. C. Ball was all about discipline, saying "yes sir", respecting your teacher and parents...all the good stuff.
The whole time I was wondering why I didn't have all my kids in there from the age 5 on. It's like a discipline boot camp, no one told me that type of thing existed. You are wondering if I ever saw Karate Kid?....Well, yeah, but clearly I forgot about grasshopper.
Gia, to her credit, jumped into the mix of kids who all knew the routine, the "rules of the Dojo", the greetings and goodbyes in Korean. I was thinking, when was the last time I tried something totally foreign to me, where I was clearly the worst person in the room and was lost the whole time highly susceptible to looking like a fool? Sometimes it's easy to forget that kids are doing that all the time, and they roll with it. It's pretty cool.
She got in some good defensive kicks, and threw out some gangster stances that I think were suppose to be legitimate Taekwondo poses, but when Gia did it she looked like she was saying "aawwwhh, it's like that bro? I will mess you up!" (insert arm cross here). In other words, she brought her bad ass to the Dojo and rocked her rocker leggings. Don't let the freckles and flowers fool yah.
