Shower myself with self love. This one was harder for me than I thought it would be. I can’t really explain why, it sounds easy enough. Just be nice to yourself right? I wasn’t mean, but I couldn’t think of anything to be particularly nice about either. I might be harder on myself than I think….it’s not that I’m so self debacing exactly, but I’m not particularly positive and nurturing to myself either. I’m going to explore that more, seems like not a great thing. Curious if other people found it easier.
Today’s joy quest is more fun (and easier for me)…three things that I’m grateful for. I’m not going to just give you the standard three either (my kids, husband and my job), I’m going to think OUT of the box on this one.
Number 1: I’m grateful for these yellow trees that are in bloom around my house that are so beautiful. They are made up of these little puff balls of yellow, that remind of something from a Dr. Seuss movie. They smell good too when the sun comes out and warms everything up (which sadly hasn’t been too often these past weeks). They are happy and make me smile just looking at them.
Number 2: I know I complain a lot about having teens, but today something happened that really made me grateful. We were at pick up, talking with another mother, kids all around, I was saying hi to everyone..standard issue crazy, and festive. It's been real cloudy and rainy, but there was a freak moment of sunshine, and everything look bright, illuminated and beautiful. Lucia leans over and says in my ear, "mom, you really need to get the tweezers out." There you have it. Unbeknownst to me, in the middle of the cloudy, dreary days, I've gone and grown a soul patch and but for my 12 year old, I would have walked around with it right into the bright sunny, unfiltered, illuminated days where the whole world would have seen. Teens serve a valuable purpose, they never spare your feelings.
Number 3: I'm really grateful that they have improved gluten free stuff. I had a pizza today that had a gluten free crust and it was BETTER than a regular crust. No joke. It use to be that everything tasted sandy and dry, but not anymore....half of Whole Foods is gluten free now by demand and clearly with that many purchasers they've had to step up their game. It's so much easier (and tastier) to be healthy now, that's a reason to be grateful.
I'll add a number 4, which is definitely going above and beyond. I'm grateful for my Hard Tail workout gear. I have collected quite a bit over the years and I pulled on a pair of flat waist capri leggings this morning and a tank top, and cranked out a strength training workout from dailyburn.com (kind of think this site is fantastic). I love the flat waist capri, I wear it in both the supplex and the cotton equally...only problem with the supplex is that it attracts Milo's hair, and I don't wash them properly so they tend to attract even more. Even despite that, I love the fit, and I wear a pair almost every day at some point. That's sort of a love affair right there.
