Today was a true vacation day. Which is to say, we did nothing exciting at ALL (especially no stressful family activities like ATV'ing). My excitement consisted of coffee and my ocean view, then the beach, a run in with some sugarless/gluten free chocolate balls, fried tacos, a renegade American family, and two scorpions.
First, my favorite part of the day...my morning coffee while looking a my view. The chair is starting to get an imprint of my butt.
Second, I went down to the little store down the road and they had these packets of sugar free/gluten free chocolate covered pineapple. Random right? First off, I have stayed OFF sugar since January (almost entirely except for a few exceptions), and i don't eat gluten. So I saw these little packs of goodness and went kind of loco. I can't tell what was is in them (ignorance is bliss), because of course other than the name "sweet well", everything else was in in Spanish. What I could tell however...AFTER I ate two pouches full of these things--TWO--was that according to the back label there are "4 porciones por paquete" and I'm guessing that means I just ate a total of 8 portions, which officially makes me a piggy.
Third, we met a really cool American family of three that decided to become Costa Ricans. They sold all their stuff, and moved to Costa Rica...permanently. Super interesting to hear how they changed their entire life style. Bold move, very impressive.
I saw two scorpions today, one dead in the laundry room (I'm really hoping they spray the house with heavy duty, U.S. banned pesticides and that is why the bugger was dead). The second one I saw in the dark walking up the steep hill with John doing our daily "hill" walk. It was super dark but I could just make out a creature walking and scorpions have a certain "gait" to their step. I made John turn on his cell flashlight and low and behold, a super big scorpion was walking across the road.
We hit Taco Tuesday at a beach restaurant down the road, where they fried up flour tortillas and did a trio of fish, chicken and beef tacos. It is the only thing on the menu on Tuesdays. Yum.
And that...drumroll....was my day. Oh, and a whole lot of reading of My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante. (GREAT book)
My suitcase essential pick today was Citizens, because they were the only jeans I brought (my Emerson's) and we scheduled a horseback riding trip today for next week, and it made me think about the fact that I remembered to bring jeans, BUT I'm wondering if the older girls actually listened to me when I told them they will want jeans on a horseback ride? Guessing not.
