Oregon medicine. It's raining again. As we all know things have been a little apocalyptic around the Pacific Northwest lately, as some of our most beloved forests and the Columbia Gorge have been burning for months. This has been the strangest summer I can remember - weeks of orange haze and thick, choking smoke that keeps us as house-bound as winter weather. The heat, the smell, the noise from the summer construction all around me has been oppressive and depressing, but today....it's raining. Pouring, actually - like it used to. I'm imagining the Eagle Creek fire fizzling out, the trees gasping in relief as the water pours down their charred bark. Maybe the creek itself is bubbling to life, washing away all the cinders and ash...the sound of the water outside is medicinal, the smell of the wet pines is too. It's 1:28am and I'm up, but I don't mind because I wouldn't want to miss this.
Here is a funny thing - I've discovered a youtube channel that has gotten me through some of the hottest summer days, by giving me a great place to "visit" if I need some relaxation. Check out the video above! There are more where that came from too - beautiful living rooms and cozy cabins, even christmas scenes if that is more your thing. I love it for a quick breather, and when I work I sometimes leave the rain sound up, it just calms me. Today I don't need a video - the real thing is pattering down right outside my window.
I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy this fall even more than most.
