I'll try to keep this brief. First off, I had my first turmeric latte tonight and it was AMAZING. I'm a total convert, and if Starbucks knew how delicious they were, they'd be on the menu (for some crazy high price, like the cold brewed coffee). The entire time I was drinking it though I wondered if my lips were turning yellow...or my teeth. They weren't, but I was worried.
Second, I officially need readers. I don't even like to type the word "readers", let alone say it, but this morning I was flipping thru emails on my phone and it took me multiple minutes to decipher the email header of a spam email (which isn't important per se, but it could have been important). The email header was "nail fungus alert", but I was pretty darn sure as I squinted to make it out, that it said "nail fungus ART". Then I proceeded to spend at least 60 seconds of my life that I will never get back, actually wondering what the hell nail fungus art was. Seriously. I'm getting readers....stat.
Third. I went to a pistol fundamentals class today with John. It was a 3 hour private class, with a gun training expert (ex-law enforcement guy, super awesome). For context, neither John nor I have ever held or fired a gun. Ever. We aren't planning on getting a gun necessarily, but gun education was on my list of things I wanted to investigate and learn more about. I know nothing about guns, except the basics of the arguments/passions on either side of the aisle on the issue (the extremes always being the versions you hear the most about). So we took this class, and it was incredibly informative, and scary at the same time. The instructor took us from all kinds of facts about guns and gun safety, to the physicality of a weapon, how it worked, etc. I won't bore you with all the details, but suffice it to say, it was fascinating. At the conclusion of the class you actually shoot the gun. It was SCARY. My heart was pounding, and it was incredibly loud. It took everything I had to pull the first trigger, but then it got easier.
The burning question? What to wear to a gun range? Funny you should ask, I'll tell you, because I wore something pretty cute. First off, just so you know, this indoor gun range is way out in the country, looks like a run down men's club from 50 years ago, has gates and security like you'd imagine in an armed commune in the country--just a wee bit ghetto and makeshift. We saw no one else the entire time we were there except for two men in their 70's for a brief 2 minutes. So my cuteness was really wasted, but that aside, I was REALLY grateful that I wore my Margaret O'Leary puffy coat, because it was FREEZING. So, this is the puffy coat to the left. No, you didn't miss it in the store, because we never ordered it for the store. I had several concrete reasons for NOT ordering it, but then I decided later to order it for myself to decide whether my reasoning was correct. The jacket looks adorable on this 6 foot model....on my 5'4" frame, it's much more marshmallow-esq. It has a shape that isn't particularly flattering, it's dry clean only and it's not water resistant. Plus it retailed for $400. I will say that I've ignored the dry clean only instructions and washed and dried mine because I can't be bothered with dry cleaners (and it looks fine--not sure why it said only to dry clean.). It's not my most flattering piece, but it's warm, pretty cute, and I wear it a lot to try and get my money's worth. I'm still glad I didn't order it for the store though (sorry Margaret), because I think it was expensive and not too flattering (unless you are model tall). It did however, make for super cute gun range attire.
There you go. Brief, and almost entirely useless. :-)
