OK, truth....I've totally lost count of what day I'm in. I know I started "week three" training this past Friday night (our weeks go from Friday to Thursday)--so I'm now mid-third week. We are doing Sun Salutation B. It just got real. :-).
This week's goal was to find one thing we could change in our life to more align with the yoga concept. of "do not steal". Which sounds pretty simple, but we had a 2 hour discussion on all the ways you can steal, and it turns out some are quite subtle. So the idea is to find something you can change that will keep you from robbing some aspect of your life. I've decided my one simple thing is SLEEP. I think lack of sleep chronically robs a little of my life force on a regular basis. I've gotten better in the last year I would say, but I definitely could be more regimented about honoring sleep time. I really do believe that it affects every area of your life....physical and mental health and overall happiness. So I'm no longer going to steal sleep from myself. That sounds weird doesn't it? You get the gist though.
Here are a couple of thoughts I had after week number two...during which the philosophy we discussed was truth. I really have made an effort to be truthful and authentic with what I like and want. It's hard though, you find yourself saying yes to situations that you really don't want to, and it's because you fear not being asked again (or whatever other consequence there is). My girlfriend and I were laughing about it the other day because basically, I want to be asked to do things these things (fundraiser, parties, events concerts etc.), but most of the time, I'd like to just say no. I unfortunately did NOT say no to the performing arts fundraiser this Saturday night, and as a result I have to go but I am pretty sure I don't want to.
I do think the requirement of taking yoga 5 days a week really kicks it up a notch. I notice my body getting much stronger, and I got to say, it feels really, really good. I hope everyone is sticking to their activity and feeling great too!
I'm also kind of excited at the general concept, which is really obvious, but if you decide to do something you care about, you can do a LOT in just a few weeks. I can't believe how much information I've already learned, and how much I've gotten out of this. It's cliche, but it's true, there's always time to do the things you want to do. I am always, ALWAYS super busy....but you can choose to be really selective about what makes you really busy, and fill your time with things that really fire you up.
I'm really hitting the books this week and learning my poses and cues so I can enter the weekend running. I have my obligatory fundraiser Saturday night, but I have DINNER with Ms. Anni Kuan on Sunday night (she's in town) and I can't wait for that! Only question is....what do I wear to dinner with someone that no doubt will out dress me?? The pressure, ohhhhh the pressure. I need to find my best Anni Kuan outfit!
