First off, before anything else....my dining room is officially wallpapered and done. I snapped a little pic of a corner. That was a project that took MONTHS to complete (from finding a painter and then a wallpaper guy, then picking paint and wallpaper....it was a part time job.). I'm excited to actually have it DONE--finished projects are something to love! I always want to point out the picture to the right, which is Romeos indoor mud racetrack which I had to move out from under the table in the left hand picture. What you are looking at is an 8 year old's rainy day imagination. A box, covered in a trash bag, with dirt dumped into it, and his favorite cars and trucks (so many that it's hard to see the dirt). Indoor dirt track. My house is filled with un-photogenic landmines like that, aka real life.
Second, I went to a yoga class today, and was all set to take one of my favorite teacher's class. I walk in, and it's a sub. OK, I roll with it....even though lets face it, when you expect one thing and then get another, it always throws you off. Then the class began. All I can say is that it was just all together the weirdest class I've ever taken, BUT it was also unexpectedly great. Weird how you ask? Well, first the music was weird. One minute a low techno beat, then next. some kind of circus sounding melody. It was quiet so it wasn't disruptive, just really odd. The teacher herself was somber, and looked a little unhappy. Think sulky teen, but she was definitely not a teen. I got past that initial impression, and then became focused on her sequence, which was just this bizarre combination of moves. I don't want to get all yoga technical, but let's just suffice it to say that sequences tend to have a pattern, and you might see apple, orange, banana, watermelon....but you don't see apple, orange, beef brisket, carrot, lemon, chicken pot pie. It was that odd.
I will say this though, the unexpected can bring really amazing things. She was. one of the few teachers that actually has ever given me an adjustment in form. Because I mostly know what I'm doing and I'm not making a gross error, the fine details aren't necessarily caught by teachers, especially during fast flow classes. She gave me a very small correction, but really important one and it was totally out of the blue and I literally thought, "wow, no one has ever said that before and it does make perfect sense."
So here is final yoga wisdom for November....be grateful for the unexpected, the weird, the oddities. They bring with them an opportunity for growth, stimulation and a new perspective.
