Happy first weekend of November! Can barely believe those words, even in print. Time goes so quickly, I just want to slow it down. Soak up each and every day.
So, as promised, a full breakdown of my other obsession--the wreaths I made WITH my bottle brush trees. These were so easy to make,
and are part of our holiday décor in the store this year. The inspiration picture was this (from a blog called lollyjane.com). Loved this, but had a really hard time finding
those small houses. Just couldn’t find them small enough online and there were none at any of the craft stores I hit up. So, this is my modified variation. I bought cheap gold hoops at the craft store, then I wrapped them in this big fluffy yarn I had in a cream color. I added greenery, trees, and little Christmas balls. I used a glue gun, and gave myself some severe burns, but they turned out adorable.
I also did big wreaths wrapped in sisal (which I found online on Amazon—you need the fine sisal, not the wider basket stuffing width). I added a vintage car ornament and of course, more trees and Christmas balls. See for yourself, pretty awesome huh?
We got in some beautiful Prairie Underground today which I’m excited about. I have to say, I love this company, and really think that they have stayed true to their vision and beliefs for the last 15+ years that we’ve carried them and that’s saying a lot in an industry where so many designers come and go, sell out, or burn out. They start and
finish the whole process in Seattle, Washington, where all their magic happens. How adorable is this cobalt color?
My parting note, passed on from this morning’s yoga class, is to remember to take some time to breath deeply. The instructor today emphasized how important it was for the body to take full, deep inhales and exhales, and that during this time of year we tend to hold on to our breath, and take in shallower sips of air. Breathing full and deep in and out triggers the parasympathetic nervous system which counters the fight or flight instinct (i.e. the stress you find welling up), it calms the mind and body almost instantly. Upshot is that you WILL feel calmer if you take two minutes, and breath really deep and slow, thru the nose, inhales and exhales.
Enjoy the weekend, hope it's slow and peaceful!
