Today’s post is first and foremost, all about Amanda. It’s her 30thbirthday (ok, technically it was yesterday), and so it’s fitting to dedicate a few words of gratitude for her. I will keep it short and sweet, because I can sum it all up by saying that she’s one of my favorite people of all time. No exaggeration. I’ve known Amanda for a long time, since she was in her late teens. I like to tell her that I think of her like a little sister, because I’m far, FAR too young to be her mother. Technically not true, but I’m sticking with that story. I’ve seen her go from young and unsure, to being 30 with all the wonderful side effects that come with finding your stride, your confidence, and your center. She’s funny, creative, honest, dedicated and loyal, with so much integrity, and all those qualities in one person is hard to come by.
I love her dearly, and count her in my small circle of people I trust, admire and love to pieces. I’m very happy to celebrate her birth, and to spend a day thinking about how thankful I am to have her in my life.
Happy Birthday!! OXOXOXO
After that, it’s all about Monday, November 5th, because today is our decorating day. We prep for our annual anniversary party by decorating the store, and having an employee excuse to eat together, drink wine together, and have fun. I get to bust out my wreaths and bottle brush trees, I seriously can NOT wait.
Next, I will note that John and I spent the weekend in San Francisco with our dear friends which was delightful. There is no greater joy then being around people that you love, you feel comfortable with, and that truly know you. It was a quick 24 hour trip, but that was long enough to have a great dinner out, catch up properly face to face, and relax a bit. I got to wear my Sarah Liller jumpsuit, which is my favorite go-to travel outfit. I threw it on with an old python patterned cashmere cardigan and some Paul Green patent loafers and it was super comfortable and easy. It seemed fitting to wear Sarah Liller in her own city, plus really, everything she does is so great for travel. The fabric doesn’t wrinkle, and it has the perfect weight.
Walking thru the airport I also noted SFO has a "yoga room", which is #1, awesome, and #2, a really good reminder that no matter where or what you are doing, if it's important to you than you can find a moment to get centered.
Lastly, on my list of things to love, WALLPAPER. I’ve grown a new appreciation for it, and am having a wee love affair with it. It’s less expensive than I thought, WAY cooler, and there are so many possibilities. We have a dining room in our new house that has 13 panels around the room of existing (and not so great) wallpaper. One of my projects was to pick new wallpaper out, which would then coordinate with new paint for the room. The painter comes today (finally, it took forever to lock this down), and my wallpaper is this great peacock feather print that is a little broody (my color way is darker than the picture), but also classic, with just enough pewter metallic to give the room a beautiful glow. It took me WEEKS to pick out the wallpaper though, because there are literally a million prints out there, and not only do you have to like the print, but then the colors that coordinate with that print have to work in the room you are doing (and in our case, the living room too which is adjacent to. the dining room.) Asking opinions is like asking opinions on baby names….you quickly realize, it’s not a good idea, so I kept my opinion circle real small, but it was still super hard to finalize. Picture to follow when this project is done,
Have a fantastic Monday!
