Dante's fifth circle of hell is anger, the seventh is violence. We hit both today. Seriously, it was the worst drive EVER. You know those situations when your kids act so out of control and freakish that you think there is no way that other kids ever act as insane? That was today. We were in the car from 8:45 until 6:30 p.m. and every minute of it sucked. There's no words really. Just know, it sucked, and the kids were off the hook. Ava, she wasn't actually, I take it back. Lucia was moderately fine, so was Romeo. But Gia was so crazy that she was like 5 kids' crazy all wrapped into one kid and she provoked the other kids into getting crazy. She hit her wall today and literally exploded.
I am still just impressed we made it out of the 5th floor apartment, down 5 circling, narrow flights, into a metal box driven by a questionable driver (he thought he was in a sports car by the way he was driving...not the piece of crap never-heard-of-the-brand-mini-van we were actually in), then we drove for 9 hours, surviving screaming, angry outbursts and physical violence, only to arrive in the peaceful Provence countryside. It's truly amazing.
The last decent was a stop at the huge Carrefour. I'm not sure why we thought this was the best grocery store to go to at this particular time. I can only blame it on exhaustion. Imagine the biggest sized Target you can imagine, and then double it, and then envision that it's the end of the world and everyone is grabbing the last groceries they will ever have. Yes, that's how insane it was in the grocery store. So bad that at one point as we waited in the line of 10 people for at least 30 minutes (because some guy was trying to buy propane and it was causing some stir) I was ready to just walk away from the full cart and just forget it. The only reason I didn't was that John talked me down saying we'd already invested half our good years thus far so we might as well wait it out.
Tomorrow will be better, mostly because it couldn't be worse.
