I found myself on a quick and rigorous shopping spree this weekend because I had my 30th high school reunion, and despite the fact that I didn't actually buy anything that I WORE to the reunion, I decided that it was a good excuse to buy things I could wear. Our reunion was at an upscale bowling alley (very marginally upscale--it's still a bowling alley), so it was a low-key event that required casual cool.
First off, the Citizens of Humanity Harlow jean in chit chat wash. I didn't realize I would love these jeans so much at first glance. The wash is lighter, there is light distressing, some abrasions (they are like your old favorite jeans that have been thru the ringer), and it's a mid-rise. I don't often like lighter jeans, I don't often wear jeans in the summer period, and I don't really like mid-rise because they usually are too high for me. I tried these on though and was instantly converted. The denim is really lightweight and super soft, and the rise is comfortable, but without feeling too high. They are fitted, but don't feel sausage tight, and the lighter wash ended up looking great with everything. I wore these the next night to an evening barbecue on an 88 degree day....the evening was still warm, and I put these jeans on and they didn't feel too heavy, or constricting--which is usually how I think of jeans in the summer. They were totally comfortable and I cuffed them up and wore them with leather flip flops. They will be a great jean straight thru fall. Love them!
Next I bought the Think Royln cross body bag that converts into a fanny pack (it comes with two different straps). I've been wanting a fanny pack (they were all over Europe, worn slung across the body in the front or back, and I wanted one the whole time.) These bags are fun and sporty, with a little bit of bling (with the shine and the metallic on some of the bags). It's super cute on, and I love it with my new jeans and my white button down Velvet shirt, and then just simple slides.
Also love the new Pauline Stanley Studio hair accessories. It's so hard to find something nice for your hair. I'm constantly grabbing rubber bangs or those butterfly clips to pull my hair back, but when I saw this little piece of art I got super excited. What a lovely way to pull back your hair right? I mean, I love a good scrunchie, who doesn't, but this is just SO much cooler!
Lastly, I haven't bought this yet but I think this MOL poncho is super cool and I want it, it's high up on my list. What a great piece to throw on over everything, and I love the thermal waffle knit, the kangaroo pocket and hoodie. It feels like the perfect fall transition piece. A must have for me. I'm starting to scope out and stockpile my favorite pieces before they are gone, and this is one of them!
And just in case you are wondering.....
The reunion was weird. First off, I didn't recognize anyone, except my best friend (who was the one who forced me to go), and maybe 3 other people. The rest of them were literally unrecognizable. I was pretty lost in space at 28, so I barely remember my 10 year reunion, I didn't go to my 20 year reunion, so seeing these people was literally seeing people after 30 years, and all I could think of was, "seriously, why does everyone look SO flippin' old". Then I got really sad/stressed and freaked out by the idea that perhaps people said the same thing about ME. Horrifying thought. We stayed an hour and a half and almost the entire hour and a half was hideous small talk. Note to self, no more high school reunions. I'm excited that it gave me an excuse to go shopping though.
