One of the best things about yoga for me is the constant reminder that I have to take ownership of how I feel, and I have to understand my body and mind, and respond to its’ needs. I never get tired of that message because I ALWAYS seem to need the reminder. Today I took a class from one of my favorite tried and true teachers, whose message is always very simple, and very grounding. She reminds me over and over that there is great power and strength in knowing your body, and responding to what it needs moment to moment. So sometimes that means you push yourself hard, and other times it means you back off and step back. The stepping back, the backing off, it’s not weakness or “lesser yoga”, in fact, it’s the entire point of yoga in the first place….connecting the mind, body and spirit. I love that she points out that just because you did something one way last time, does not mean it has to be that way THIS time. You have to listen to yourself, and your needs….really listen.
So we made it thru Friday, and I for one am pretty darn excited about that. I’m walking into the weekend (NO, running into it), with a keen awareness of my body and my mind, and listening to what I need, with no judgment or preconception of what that means from one minute to the next. I might start out ambitious, and then decide I’d rather take a fat nap and binge watching Good Girls. I might go for a hike, and turn it into a stroll. It takes strength to listen to what you need. It warrants saying again and again.
Hope you all are moving into the weekend with the same awareness and that you get what you need for your body and mind.
