I like to start all blog posts with irreverent and random titles. Today’s includes “drinking water” for NO other reason than I really need to drink more water. I’m bad. I literally have to force myself and often I go to hot yoga so I sweat ½ a gallon and I STILL don’t drink water. I’m really trying to change that.
Today’s yoga wisdom was about taking the time to find your truth. Doesn’t that phrase, “finding your truth”, sound so self-helpy and a bit irritating? It does, I know. Yet, somehow today, in the course of that hour on the mat, it did seem to make perfect sense and feel far less irritating than if I read it on a bumper sticker. The angle that seemed to hit home for me was the concept of finding the time to find your truth. So for some of us, moving in a blur of activity on a daily basis, it’s hard to quiet our mind, it’s hard to find time for ourselves and it’s hard to stop to pay attention to your own needs, or own inner voice. Sometimes there are days, weeks…months even where every minute seems to be filled with demands, activities and “stuff.” You move from minute to minute and there’s hardly space to breath let alone find your truth. You are lucky to get lunch.
Which is why I’m so religious about my yoga, because no matter WHAT it is that you do, everyone needs at least one hour of time for themselves, where you just pause the thinking. Pausing the thinking allows space for your thoughts to come back in with more clarity, and that’s when your truth is more evident.
On a total other note, I just want to express my adoration for Velvet. I usually get tired of designers after this long (we’ve carried it for almost 20 years), but Velvet is just always awesome, and always so easy to wear. I love that the casual pieces are a staple for me, and then the dressier pieces are dressy, but not TOO dressy, so they still fit into that casual lux category that I wear far more than actual “dressy” category. It also washes great. I usually wash and dry everything, even the stuff that says not to dry, and I’ve had some of those “dry clean” pieces shrink, but other than that they hold up great (so now I just buy stuff a little big and that accounts for my poor care capabilities.) I’m super sweet on this sleeveless hoodie because I’ve always had a weakness for layered long sleeve tees under short sleeve things. How great will this look with a pop of color under it? It’s such a great wear now but also you could wear this on a day in June sleeveless!! It's on my short list of must-haves!
