I've got BIG news. Well, maybe not that big, but it feels kind of big to me. Lucia went to yoga with me this afternoon!! Yes, my moody, more than occasionally irrational and irritated teen went with ME to a 4:30 p.m. (on a Friday no less) yoga class. I thought for sure she was going to bail on me. I would have put money on it. But no, she actually came, and it was a good class, and I think she really liked it. The message today was awesome, and the teacher was one I really love AND who is infamous for lots of messaging. Seriously though, all I could think of during the entire class and all the awesome yoga lecturing was "Lucia, I hope you are really listening." The focus today was on the concept that it is never too late to do what you want to do, or be what you want to be. She actually gave this quirky (and totally random) example that had inspired her whole thought process. The story went like this:
She was watching videos of kiss cams at sports events. Who knows why, but she got sucked into some social media rabbit hole and found herself watching them. So the kiss cam focuses in on all these different people....some are happy couples who kiss sweetly, others are couples that play jokes or dump popcorn on the others head (sounds rude, but ok). And in one of the videos this woman turns to her date for a kiss and he laughs, shrugs his shoulders and turns away. So what does she do? She turns right around to the guy on the OTHER side of her, and leaned in for a kiss.
I guess the point of this little story was just that, you, on the fly, can change it up. Just. Like. That. You can take something, and turn it into a totally different thing. You can change your attitude, your relationships, your health, your look, your whatever, at the drop of a hat. Just because you can. It's never too late, and nothing is "fixed". It's pretty empowering when you remind yourself of that fact.
On a totally other note, HELLO FEBRUARY!! I'm so ready for a new month, and SO ready for February. I've always had a soft spot forthis odd little bridge month, with a love holiday smack down in the middle. I dig it! I'm super excited about our February challenge this month because we wanted an excuse to, on a daily basis, think about, and actualize loving things for ourselves and others. It's not easy to do it every single day in a conscious way, but we're up for the challenge.
My loving act today is going to be my kick off of heart notes. My plan is to take my 3" heart punch that I bought JUST for this lovely month, and make little notes for the kids each day with words of encouragement or love. One a day, and today is day #1.
Happy Love Month people!!
