I’ve had 4 cups of tea today, watched 3 movies, read, gone into the hot tub twice, made sushi rolls, took one freezing cold walk, and went to the grocery store where I paid entirely too much for an avocado (among a lot of other things.). We’re in Sunriver for the long weekend. I’m home with the two little kids who didn’t ski today (Romeo has a cold and Gia only wanted to ski one of the two days). John’s got the older girls on the mountain.
It’s been a long lazy day, one that included a lot of eating, and a lot of lounging in front of the fire.
It’s also a day during which I spent a lot of time thinking about the moment, and how lucky we are to all be here together as a family. On our drive up here (5 hours with traffic) we got some very tough news about my father-in-law’s health--very tough, and a shock. It was jolting reminder that time is short, and that we don’t know what each day brings. Everything I saw, did, and experienced today was consumed with the sense that it’s ALL important, and it’s ALL momentary.
So here’s to enjoying every lounging moment, all the time with our loved ones and friends, and the beautiful places we get to be. We can’t control how long we have the people we love, but we can make the most of every minute we have. I’m drinking whiskey on the rocks as I write, and I’m toasting the moment.

p.s. Total side note, but you know what the most coveted thing has been so far on this weekend? The PJ Salvage charcoal luxe blanket that I had bought and threw in the car last minute because I thought someone might want to sleep in the car. Well, turns out this house we're renting has no throws, so Gia and Romeo have fought over that blanket which has been a cozy addition to the movies, fire and big overstuffed leather chairs.
