When you think of a 9 year old boy, you don’t think of style. You think jeans and a tee-shirt, probably both dirty. However, they are in fact very particular about WHAT they wear even when it wouldn't appear so. Romeo currently only wears shorts and tee-shirts to school, the fact that it’s still 40 degrees when I drop him off makes no difference. So I bought him a new pair of athletic shorts yesterday. They are heather grey, with a drawstring/elastic waist. As plain as plain can be really—no emblems, no weird colors. I was just about to rip off the tags and wash them when he declares, “nope, don’t like them”. Uhm, why exactly? Because they have a small vent on each side of the leg. That’s right, a small 1” vent on the outside of the leg is the “style deal breaker” for my 9 year old. How quirky is that?
I also heard today from my friend who works at a school that the new game at recess is “coronavirus tag”. Leave it to kids to find a fun twist on a stressful virus. Romeo declared that he’d be fine if “a bully at my school got sick with coronavirus because then they’d close down the school for a week.” He clarified that he didn’t want anyone nice, or in his class, OR his teacher to get sick though, but apparently he’s fine sacrificing the unnamed bully in the school for some much desired “no school days”.
Virus anxieties aside, it’s officially super springy outside here. The weather has been so good, still cold in the morning but warming up above 50 degrees during the day which doesn't sound all that warm as I type it but somehow in the sun it feels warmer (or at least feels like the promise of warmer). It has been bright and cheery outside, there are cherry blossoms, daffodils and budding flowers everything. It’s awesome. I have already spring cleaned thru my current closet, but this weekend I will officially pull all my winter clothes out of my closet and pack all of them away, it’s time! I’ve managed to wash a lot of my cashmere sweaters (it feels so great when you hand wash them vs. dry clean, the cashmere feels SO soft), and now I’m going to layer some Meyer dryer sheets between the sweaters, and put them into plastic storage bins. Bye-bye heavy winter sweaters….miss you until next year! Also time to say hello to Spring clothes!
