First off, I almost feel guilty talkin' up Peloton life lessons when normally talk up the yoga life lessons. I will actually share BOTH today. Yoga was a 30 minute class of ONLY sun salutations. I've never done that before to be honest, but it was sort of enlightening. There's something meditative about repeating a single series over and over again, you fall into a bit of a trance. There's meaning in the monotony was the gist of the class.
But it was Peloton that was really inspiring me today. First off, I've said it before, I DO love this machine, but I've also said, I have no love in general for exercise of the extreme cardio nature, nor do I have any particular fondness for biking. However, all that being said, I've totally warmed up to this routine of getting on the bike for a 30 minute ride. Today I did an intense one (apparently they are called "hits rides". Anyway, it was a short one (30 minutes), but the instructor was great and she wasn't annoying at all (which was a major bonus) and she was simultaneously inspiring.
She constantly reminded us that it wasn't going to be easy, that you would have the moment when you felt like just giving up and letting go, but that was when you had to make a choice. The fork in the road. If you wanted to grow and get stronger, you have to dig deep and push forward despite the discomfort and dispite the difficulty. Nothing comes easy. The feeling of riding thru the challenge and coming out the other side would be amazing, but you only get that if you didn't give up.
For some reason, it felt particularly apt advice for not only the hard ass ride I was on, but for this whole hard ass time we find ourselves in. Sometimes things are just so hard, and you put your nose down, and push thru the mud. You accept that it is hard and you embrace it like the challenge it is, a challenge to be overcome.
Anyway, I"m passing that on for anyone else who has struggled this past week with extreme quarantine fatigue, and a sense of overwhelming frustration. It's hard, no doubt, but we are digging deep and taking the fork in the road that pushes us harder, forces us to think differently, act different, be innovative and strong. We're all going to come out of this period of time one of two ways, and I know which way I want to come out of it.
Who knew I was also buying therapy when I bought the Peloton?? Bonus.
Can't wait for the new Tonlé to arrive, it should be here today!! I've got my eye on this kaftan dress because I think it's the most comfortable, cool, throw on dress ever (and it comes in cream AND black so I'm pretty sure both are going to be essential)! We've got 80 degree weather coming up and to say I'm excited is an extreme understatement.
