My favorite time of. year! This is my very first year NOT being involved on the ground (figuratively) with our Annual Women Helping Women event, and I have to say, it's a little sad! This has been an effort near to my heart for the past 20 years, and it's such an important one for women to join together on. Our local women's shelter is called Women's Space Center For Domestic Violence, and I'm sure everyone reading this outside of the area has something similar in their community. It helps support women trying to escape situations of domestic abuse, and that means supporting them with all kinds of wrap around services. They often leave their home, with children in tow, and nothing packed except the clothes they are wearing. The clothing we gather during our event goes to help clothes these women, help them get back on their feet so they can move forward and break free. Covid has created a crisis for women in abusive situations, and this last year has been incredibly difficult for them. The increased time for people to have to cohabitat at home with abusive partners, the stressors of the pandemic, lost jobs, lack of services in the community, needless to say, it has been a perfect storm of conditions and our help is needed more than ever.
This event coincides perfectly with the annual "spring cleaning" that we all tend to do. So all of those items from your closet that are perfectly wonderful, just no longer wonderful for YOU, can happily be put to such good use. I use this time to force myself to let go of all those things that I "thought" would work, or "hoped" would work. It's only bad if you keep these things in your closer where they just gather dust and create stale energy. It's much better to let them out into the world to do good for someone in need!
Once again this year Melange is offering a sweet 25% coupon code (WHW2021) to use throughout the event. After you purge your closet you just might find that you want a new thing or two, so we've got you covered (did you see the cute new Lilla P.--ADORABLE)! Personally I am primed for some fresh new energy in my life, and I feel like I'm ready to bust out into the world after being figuratively caged for the last year+. I know I'm not alone!
So here's to protecting women everywhere, to new energy, new beginnings, fresh starts, and the community we all need to make that happen! I miss you all, and hope that with the sunny weather ahead, there will only be smiles and laughters from here on out!
Cheers,
