The good part about not being 20 years old anymore is that I'm not quite as frenzied about the ever changing trends. I know what works for me, and what doesn't, and I don't feel driven to follow the yearly whims of the fashion elite. I also don't want to be hopelessly unaware of them or look like I'm stuck in circa 2010. I like to freshen up my closet each season with some styles that breath some life into my tried and true pieces and silhouettes.
So, with fall 2021 upon us, we're diving deep into new styles and of course, fall trends. Here's just a few that I can actually get behind wholeheartedly.
- Saturated Color: That's right, color. We all need a boost, and this season is about rich, deep, slightly funky colors. Mustard yellow, bubble gum pink, rich lavender, deep rust. It's time to shine. We're not giving up our classic essentials in white, black and heather (I just bought the Citizens of Humanity tee in heather and plan on wearing it a ton), but we're also going to grab some rich color, liven up the season ahead, and be oh so on trend.
- Slouchy Denim: That's right, slouchy (read relaxed, chill, with room to breath). There will still be a time and place for your skinny jeans, but this fall is going to be slouchy forward, with a relaxed, low slung vibe that sounds, well let's just say it, comfortably cool.
- Tonal Layering: Pick a color, any color, and then layer, layer and layer some more....all in a tonal color palette. There is something that is just fresh and striking when you layer on 4 shades of cream, or 3 shades of olive green. It's slimming, it's subtly bold, and it's easy. Mark me down for some tonal layering this fall.
Stay tuned for more fall trends, to gently adopt (or at least acknowledge and politely decline). Personally I'm all in on the three above. I might just start with this deliciously rich Margaret O'Leary sweater--this color is divine! I think I can definitely pair that with some slouchy denim too!
