My littlest sister, Cindy, has been more helpful over the years than I ever would have expected. When I was 14 and my mom first told me she was pregnant, I thought my life was over. There would be no coming back from this - life as I knew it was done. My other sister, Danielle, who was 12 at the time, was ecstatic! She couldn't imagine anything better. I will gladly admit that I was wrong, and I actually can't picture our family without Cindy in it. Although, its still fun to reminisce about alllll the memories that happened before her, and rub in what she missed out on. haha.
When Cindy first started being able to move around more independently and do things on her own, her favorite thing to do was bring us water while we were eating dinner or watching TV. Super helpful! If you got downstairs and realized you forgot something upstairs, Cindy would go and get it for you. Now, you'd risk her throwing it down the stairs because she wasn't going to carry it all the way downstairs (I guess that was just pushing her limits), but better than going back upstairs! Especially if what you needed wasn't fragile. When I had my wisdom teeth removed and my other oral surgeries, Cindy waited on my hand and foot and was constantly bringing me anything and everything. Since I couldn't talk, she brought me a notepad to write my requests on, but she couldn't read yet. So I'd hear her going thru the house trying to find someone to read my note so she could follow the instructions.
Now, before this starts sounding like we were all 3 perfect sisters that never fought or argued and constantly went out of our way to do nice things for each other and would race each other to do dishes for the other person, don't worry, that's not the case. haha. We had (still have!) our share of fights and arguments and stealing each others things when someone would make us mad. We're normal sisters, I promise!
Recently, Cindy has taken her helpfulness to a new level, and I'm so grateful to benefit from it! It also helps that she can drive now - she can do so many more favors! The other day, I was out of dog food, and realized there was no way to get to the store before it closed that night, and I couldn't make eggs, rice and carrots another night for the poor dog. Not because he doesn't love when we let him run out of food and he gets a homemade meal, but because I was afraid of risking him getting to used to the special meals, and risking him not eating dog food ever again out of protest! Cindy saved the day by going to the store, picking up my online order, and dropping the food off at my house! Now that's service! If you catch her in a good mood, she'll even go to the grocery store for me and deliver the goods to my house, and put them away!!! That's better than any grocery delivery service I've used. A few weeks ago she showed up to the shop with sandwiches from a new sandwich place we've been wanting to try and had lunch with me. So nice!
Side note - she's smart, and always looking to make a dollar, so she does charge me for all of this. haha. Its not a free service, just helpful. LOL. She also got a job a bit ago, and between that and her friends, it's really cut into her availability to help me with things, but it's a huge help when she is around!
Just wanted to brag on Cindy a little bit and how easy she makes my life (sometimes ;-) ), even though I initially thought it would be the complete opposite. And maybe this will be a little reminder to do something nice and helpful for someone, and how the simplest things can make someone's day.
